FIFA accuses SA of paying bribes to secure 2010 World Cup

FIFA has directly accused South Africa of paying a bribe to secure the right to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The allegation is contained in court documents submitted in New York, where FIFA have applied for restitution from those accused of bribery and corruption. FIFA is applying for tens of millions of dollars in compensation from former officials who are implicated in the corruption that has seen the US Justice Department charge 41 different people and companies with fraud-related activities. But FIFA itself is being treated as a victim in all the incidents, so now they want their money back. The court documents include details of the $10 dollar payment to Jack Warner, which South African Football Association ( Safa) has always claimed was a grant to the African diaspora. FIFA claims SAFA lied about the nature of the payment, which was facilitated through its own bank accounts. They say the money was for the votes of three people, including Warner and the now disgraced Chuck Blazer, for their votes.
