Top seed Roger Federer will face Milos Raonic in the final of the Brisbane International after seeing off Dominic Thiem in their semi-final clash on Saturday.
It took defending champion Federer an hour to get past the Austrian 6-1, 6-4 at the Pat Rafter Arena to set up a repeat final of last year's event against Canada's Raonic, who beat Bernard Tomic of Australia 7-6(5), 7-6(5).
Federer's performance was impressive even though Thiem broke him once early in the second set. The Swiss always looked the better player on the day and thoroughly deserved the victory.
In the earlier match between Raonic and Tomic neither player lost serve in the match even though Tomic was able to twice come back from 5-1 down to level the scores in both tiebreakers before the fourth seed prevailed.
